Uptown Community Service Center is a non-profit 501(c)3 organization in the North Park neighborhood of San Diego.
We are run by dedicated volunteers and provide services to over 2,000 homeless and very-low income persons each month.
We help our neighbors in need by providing:
The Service Center helps an average of over 110 clients per day. They range in age from 17 to 82, average 43 years old, and 40% of them are female. The racial breakdown is 41% white, 34% black, 19% Hispanic, and the remaining 6% Asian and other. Homeless clients account for 60% of our clients; 50% of the clients have some form of disability and 12% are veterans. The Service Center is supported by a group of 11 community churches of several denominations and contributions from individual donors and volunteers. We were founded in 1984 by a group of ministers from different Christian congregations in the "uptown" area of San Diego. These ministries perceived a need to provide services for the homeless residing in the area.
