Uptown Community Service Center is a non-profit 501(c)3 organization in the North Park neighborhood of San Diego.
We are run by dedicated volunteers and provide services to over 2,000 homeless and low income persons each month.
We help our neighbors in need by providing:
The Service Center helps an average of over 110 clients per day. They range in age from 17 to 82, average 50 years old, and 39% of them are female. The racial breakdown is 40% white, 30% black, 17% Hispanic, 10% multi-racial, and the remaining 3% Asian and other. Homeless clients account for 90% of our clients; 53% of the clients have some form of disability and 12% are veterans. The Service Center is supported by a group of 8 community churches of several denominations and contributions from individual donors and volunteers. We were founded in 1984 by a group of ministers from different Christian congregations in the "uptown" area of San Diego. These ministries perceived a need to provide services for the homeless residing in the area.
